What is Super Intelligence (SI)?
Super Intelligence (SI) is the new name for artificial intelligence in the United States government. Here is what it means, what it doesn't, why everyone suddenly wants a .si address, and super intelligence you can put to work today.
What SI means
On 29 September 2026, US President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing the federal executive branch to use "Super Intelligence" (SI) in place of "Artificial Intelligence" (AI). In practice, SI refers to the same family of technology: systems that read and write language, understand images, find patterns and help people decide and act. Chat assistants, coding assistants and image tools are all SI under the new usage.
Outside the US government, "AI" is still the everyday and legal term in much of the world. The European Union's AI Act, for example, still uses it. Expect to see both for a while.
How AI became SI
- 22 September 2026: at the United Nations, President Trump said the US would use "SI" for "super intelligence" in official documents.
- 29 September 2026: an executive order replaced "Artificial Intelligence" with "Super Intelligence" across the executive branch.

Super Intelligence vs "superintelligence"
Before 2026, superintelligence was a research term, popularised by philosopher Nick Bostrom, for a hypothetical intellect that far outperforms the best humans in practically every field. Fact-checkers pointed out the overlap when the new name arrived. The new SI label names today's AI; it doesn't announce that such an intellect exists. When you see "SI" on a product, ask what it actually does for you.
The .si domain rush
.si is the country domain of Slovenia. Within about a day of the UN speech, new .si registrations overtook .ai. The registry counted more new .si names in 24 hours than in the whole previous month and called the demand unprecedented. Much of it is speculation: many of the new names were listed for resale straight away, with nothing built on them.
